sam houser's 2005 interview feels like the blueprint for gta 6
Stumbled on a Sam Houser interview from 2005 last night and it kind of floored me. He's talking about what Rockstar was chasing back then. Realistic immersive worlds that feel alive. Strong narrative layered on top. Nothing about it sounds dated. It sounds like a checklist for what they've been building toward with GTA 6.
Almost 20 years between that interview and now. Vice City was the vibe then, and now we're going back to Leonida with Lucia and Jason. The whole living breathing world thing, NPCs with routines, weather, random stuff happening, that was the dream he was describing. Now it's basically the baseline for what we've seen in the trailers and the extended look.
I ended up cutting a little edit together using that interview audio. Paired it with Raf's Self Control, which I didn't realize was the original track. The Laura Branigan cover is the one everyone knows from Vice City's radio, but the original hits different over Houser talking about world building.
I didn't go overboard with the edit, it's more of a vibe piece. But hearing him describe the goal in 2005 while watching GTA 6 footage makes it clear this has been a long game for them. The ambition didn't show up overnight.
If you remember cruising around Vice City with that cover playing, the edit will probably land. Turned out better than I expected.
