The date is November 19, 2026, and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick reconfirmed it as final on the May 2026 earnings call. It took two delays to get here: the original 2025 window slipped to May 26, 2026 (announced May 2, 2025), then to the current date (announced November 6, 2025). Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026 at digital storefronts and major retailers.

One thing that surprised a lot of buyers: physical copies contain no disc. They are code-in-a-box, with a single-use download code that locks to your account — no lending, reselling, or trade-in. Editions

Two editions, nothing else. The Standard Edition is $79.99. The Ultimate Edition is $99.99, digital-only, and adds exclusive vehicles, weapons, and five single-player shops — all cosmetic and side content, with no early access and no story advantage. An upgrade path for Standard owners will be sold later.

Every pre-order (any edition, any purchase before November 20, 2026) includes the Vintage Vice City Pack: a '55 Vapid Stanier, a garage near Ocean Beach, retro outfits for Jason and Lucia, and a Tommy Vercetti-inspired weapon pattern. Trailers

Rockstar has released exactly two full trailers plus a short cover-art reveal video. Trailer 1 (December 4, 2023) revealed the setting and Lucia, set to Tom Petty, and set three Guinness World Records with a logged 90.4 million YouTube views in 24 hours. Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025) confirmed the protagonists' full names and hit 475 million views across all platforms in a day, per Rockstar. The cover art dropped June 18, 2026 alongside the pre-order announcement.

A third video, "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look," is dated for August 27, 2026 — confirmed by Rockstar via a first-of-its-kind Netflix partnership. Map and setting

GTA 6 takes place in the state of Leonida, Rockstar's satirical Florida. Six regions are officially named and described: Vice City (the Miami analog, with Ocean Beach and Little Cuba), the Leonida Keys, the Grassrivers wetlands, faded coastal town Port Gellhorn, sugar-refinery company town Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park on the northern border.

Characters

Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are dual playable protagonists — lovers and partners in crime. Lucia, fresh out of Leonida Penitentiary, is the series' first non-optional female lead. Rockstar's synopsis: an easy score goes wrong and pulls the pair into a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida. The "Bonnie and Clyde" framing comes from press reporting, not Rockstar, but it fits.

A supporting cast of six was revealed in May 2025 — including Keys smuggler Brian Heder, bank robber Raul Bautista, and Vice City legend Boobie Ike. No voice actors have been officially announced; every name you have seen is reported or rumored. Read the full character guide.

Answers to common questions

The short versions: GTA 6 launches as a single-player experience — the GTA Online successor is not coming at launch and has no date. There is no PS4, Xbox One, or Switch version.
