GTA 6 EDITIONS & PRE-ORDERS

Pre-orders for GTA 6 opened on June 25, 2026, going live at midnight local time in each region per Rockstar's announcement. There are exactly two editions — Standard and Ultimate — with no Collector's Edition and no steelbook. The game launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S (see our release date page for the full timeline). Here is everything each edition contains, what every pre-order gets for free, and the one thing physical buyers need to know before ordering.

Standard vs Ultimate Edition

Everything in the Ultimate column is verified against the official PlayStation Store listing. The Squalo speedboat sits docked at Washington Beach with an explosives-laden weapons crate, and the Morgan Revolvers come from the Vercetti Estate with palm-tree-etched grips. According to GTABase, the Electric Fang tattoos include 50+ exclusive designs by the artist collective FAILE.

Vintage Vice City Pack — the pre-order bonus

Everyone who pre-orders — or buys the game any time before November 20, 2026 — gets the Vintage Vice City Pack on either edition. It includes:

• '55 Vapid Stanier sedan
• Shore Court personal garage near Ocean Beach, with a weapon locker and a Fence deposit for stolen goods
• Vice City-inspired outfits and hairstyles: a vintage pastel linen suit for Jason, a red sequin mini dress with curls for Lucia (more on both leads on our characters page)
• A tropical weapon pattern inspired by Tommy Vercetti's palm-tree shirt, applicable to most guns

Note the "before November 20" wording: buying on launch day still gets you the pack, so this is less a pre-order incentive and more a launch-window bonus.

Physical copies: no disc, code-in-a-box

This is the part that catches people out. Physical copies of GTA 6 contain no disc on either platform. The box holds a single-use download code that permanently binds to the PlayStation or Xbox account that redeems it — no lending, no resale, no trade-in. The move is widely read as an anti-leak measure.

Physical boxes ship starting November 12, 2026 — a week before launch — so buyers can preload; digital preload opens the same day. Whether a disc version ever arrives is unclear, and the reporting has only gotten more contradictory: a Rockstar Support email suggesting a physical copy "in the following months" fueled hope, but the Hollywood Reporter later cited a source saying there are no plans to ever print a GTA 6 disc, at launch or after — that reporting was echoed by several other outlets. Then, in early July, a Polish outlet cited an unnamed insider claiming a genuine disc edition would ship around December 2026 — a claim Rockstar has not confirmed or denied, and one that directly contradicts the "no plans" reporting. According to Kotaku, some retailers are refusing to stock the game until a disc version exists. The wider industry context doesn't help disc hopefuls either way: on July 1 Sony officially announced that disc production for new PlayStation releases ends entirely in January 2028. If the GTA 6 disc saga develops, it will land in News & Trailers first.

GTA+ month — digital pre-orders only

Digital pre-orders include one free month of GTA+, redeemable immediately and usable before launch. Two catches: it must be redeemed by March 31, 2027, and it auto-renews at around $7.99/month unless you cancel. Physical code-in-a-box pre-orders do not get the GTA+ month — the one concrete perk digital has over physical beyond skipping the box.

US prices are from the official PlayStation Store; UK figures come via the Xbox Store listings. In Australia, EB Games takes pre-orders with a AU$10 deposit.

Is Ultimate worth the extra $20?

Honest take: everything in the Ultimate Edition is cosmetic or side content threaded through the story. The core game is identical — no better missions, no faster progression, no mechanical advantage, and no early access. If exclusive vehicles, shops, and outfits appeal to you, $20 is a fair price for the volume of extras. If not, buy Standard now and grab the Ultimate Edition Upgrade later if you change your mind — Rockstar has confirmed it will be sold separately.
