GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. That single fact answers a lot of questions — but the ones people actually search for are messier: PC, Game Pass, crossplay, what the $20 Ultimate upgrade buys. Platforms & PC

Is GTA 6 coming to PC?

Not announced. As of July 2026 there is no PC date, no PC pre-order, and no system requirements — Rockstar has said nothing. Be wary of aggregator sites claiming a PC version is "confirmed as post-launch"; it isn't.

The historical pattern is why most press expects a port eventually: GTA 5 reached PC about 19 months after consoles, and Red Dead Redemption 2 took about 13 months. That points to late 2027–2028 as the widely expected window — but it's analyst speculation, not a plan Rockstar has shared. If you're PC-only, the honest answer is: plan to wait, possibly a long time.

Will it run on PS4, Xbox One, or Switch?

No PS4 or Xbox One version — GTA 6 is built for current-gen hardware only. No Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 version has been announced either. Will GTA 6 be on Game Pass or PS Plus?

No — not at launch. Take-Two has repeatedly rejected day-one subscription releases, preferring full-price sales for its biggest titles. If GTA 6 ever appears on a subscription service, history suggests it would be years after release.

Price & editions

How much does GTA 6 cost, and what are the editions?

Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026. There are two editions and no Collector's Edition:

Every pre-order includes the Vintage Vice City Pack — retro '80s outfits for Jason and Lucia plus a classic vehicle. The Ultimate Edition adds exclusive vehicles, weapons, apparel, five single-player shops, and a classic-car commission mission. Digital pre-orders of either edition also get one free month of GTA+. Does the physical edition have a disc?

No — and this surprised a lot of people. The boxed "physical" edition contains a one-time download code, not a disc, and Rockstar has confirmed no disc edition is planned at launch. The decision drew significant backlash, including canceled GameStop pre-orders. Whether a disc version ever arrives later is unclear — reports conflict.

Gameplay & multiplayer

Does GTA 6 have multiplayer at launch?

No. Official store listings explicitly describe GTA 6 as a single-player experience, and Take-Two all but confirmed in June 2026 that the GTA Online successor won't be there at launch — with no announced date. For context: GTA Online arrived about two weeks after GTA 5, and Red Dead Online launched in beta about a month after RDR2. That precedent fuels plenty of guessing in Theories & Speculation, but nothing is confirmed.

Will GTA 6 have crossplay?

Unconfirmed. Rockstar hasn't announced crossplay, and GTA Online never had it in 13 years of updates. Insider rumors conflict — one claims PS5–Xbox crossplay when the online mode launches, another says it's "on the roadmap but not at launch." Until Rockstar speaks, treat any crossplay claim as rumor.

Who do you play as?

Two protagonists: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a romantic criminal duo — both officially confirmed as playable. Lucia is the first non-optional female lead in a mainline GTA. According to TechRadar, switching is reported to work like GTA 5's free-roam swap, with the pair together in many missions — but Rockstar hasn't detailed the mechanics. Is there a first-person mode?

Not officially confirmed. Trailer analysis and precedent — GTA 5's re-release and RDR2 both shipped first-person modes — make it widely expected, but until Rockstar says so, file it under unconfirmed.

How big is the map?

Rockstar has published no official size figure. The setting is the state of Leonida — Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Ambrosia, Mount Kalaga, Port Gellhorn. Community mapping estimates put it at roughly 60–80 square miles of land versus GTA V's ~29, about 2–2.7x — fan math, not fact. More on our map and Leonida page.

Development

Who is making GTA 6?

Rockstar Games' internal studios working collectively, led by Rockstar North in Edinburgh with San Diego, Toronto, and other support teams — reportedly over 2,000 developers. Take-Two Interactive publishes. It's also the first mainline GTA since 1997 not written by Dan Houser, who left Rockstar in 2020.

How long has it been in development?

Preliminary work began around 2014, early development started in late 2018 after RDR2 shipped, and by Take-Two's own framing, production ran "in earnest" from 2020 — making it roughly 6–8 years of active development and Rockstar's longest cycle ever. The game was announced December 4, 2023 with Trailer 1 (a day ahead of its scheduled premiere, after the trailer leaked), then delayed twice: from fall 2025 to May 26, 2026 (announced May 2, 2025), then to November 19, 2026 (announced November 6, 2025).
