Status: officially dated, not yet released. Rockstar has published two full trailers — December 2023 and May 2025 — and on August 6, 2026 confirmed a third video, "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look," premiering August 27, 2026. The announcement (August 6, 2026)

Rockstar broke its own playbook. Every prior GTA trailer premiered on Rockstar's own YouTube channel with, at most, a few days' notice via Newswire. This time, Rockstar partnered with Netflix — a first for the studio — to give the streaming service a six-hour exclusive window: Netflix subscribers see "An Extended Look" first, at 3 PM ET on August 27, with Rockstar's own YouTube channel and the GTA VI website following at 9 PM ET that same day, free to everyone.

The timing lands three weeks after the most confident insider guess. Tom Henderson had pointed at August 6 itself, one day ahead of Take-Two's August 7 earnings call — wrong, as it turned out, though the earnings-call proximity theory wasn't crazy: the announcement broke the day before that call, even if the trailer itself is dated well past it. Every earlier guess — the June 25 pre-order launch, the July 19 World Cup final — had already come and gone with nothing.

What Rockstar has confirmed — and what it hasn't

Confirmed: the title, the date, and the platform sequencing above. Not confirmed: runtime, content, or whether it includes actual gameplay. The word "Extended Look" and the timing — months after Trailer 2, months before a November 19 launch — have most press and fans expecting the first real gameplay footage after two purely cinematic trailers, but Rockstar itself has said nothing about content. Reaction to the Netflix arrangement has been mixed: plenty of fans are treating a Rockstar–Netflix crossover as a fun flex, while a vocal group has called gating a highly anticipated reveal behind a subscription, even for six hours, an unwelcome first.

What's still genuinely unknown

Everything below remains speculation, clearly labeled as such:

• Content: whether "An Extended Look" is a traditional trailer, a longer developer-style presentation, or something else — Rockstar hasn't said.
• Gameplay: widely expected given the timing and title, not confirmed.
• Runtime: no length has been announced.

What is not speculation: pre-orders have been live since June 25, the game ships November 19, 2026, and August 27 is now a real, confirmed date on the road there.

What to expect, based on the first two

Trailer 1 sold the setting — Vice City, Leonida, the tone. Trailer 2 sold the leads — Jason and Lucia, their relationship, and the first hints of how the story frames them. The logical third act is systems and story stakes: missions, the heist framing, maybe the first look at UI. Every week YouTube surfaces "TRAILER 3 LEAKED" uploads. All of them so far have been fan edits or AI-generated fakes, some convincing enough to fool news aggregators.
