PS Plus for a year or GTA 6 pre-order, the $80 dilemma
Caught a post on Reddit that hit a little too close to home. Someone's got $80 coming their way in October and they're stuck between two choices: a 12-month PS Plus Essential sub or locking in the GTA 6 Standard Edition pre-order. They're asking the community to be the tiebreaker, and honestly, I've been turning this over in my head too.
On one hand, PS Plus Essential keeps the lights on. You need it for GTA Online, and if you're still grinding Los Santos, that's a whole year of access. Plus the monthly games, cloud saves, all that. It's the practical pick. But on the other hand, we're talking about GTA 6. The game we've been waiting over a decade for. Pre-ordering now means you're locked in, no scrambling later when the hype hits fever pitch. And with the Standard Edition at $80, it's a straight trade.
I think the real question is what you're gonna be playing between now and November 2026. If you're deep into GTA Online and need that sub to keep the grind going, then PS Plus makes sense. But if you're like me and your PS5 has been gathering dust because nothing scratches that Rockstar itch, I'd put every cent toward Vice City. GTA Online is fun, but it's also a time sink that'll feel like a ghost town once Leonida drops. Why pay for a year of something you might abandon in 16 months?
Also, pre-ordering gets you the Vintage Vice City Pack. Not a game changer, but a nice little bonus. And let's be real, the FOMO of not having the game pre-loaded on day one is real. Servers might be a mess, but at least you're in the queue.
So my vote goes to the pre-order. PS Plus can wait. You can always grab a month here and there if you need a GTA Online fix, but that $80 toward GTA 6 is a one-time ticket to Leonida. Don't overthink it.

ngl i'm too broke for this dilemma. i was just gonna buy the game used in 2027 lol. but if i had $80 i'd preorder gta 6. ps plus feels like a tax just to play online and i'm new to the series anyway. do i even need it for the story mode
Pre-order for sure. Here in Brazil we wait forever for games, but at least story mode don't need Plus.

exactly. im grabbing it to tear apart the mechanics for RP builds anyway. single player is gonna eat my first month. pre-order now, worry about plus when youre actually grinding lobbies.

This. So much this. Back in 2003 we bought Vice City once and that disc was yours forever. No Plus tax, no monthly rent on your own games. $80 for a year of Essential is just paying Sony to use your internet. Lock in that pre-order, get the Vintage pack, and play story mode day one like it's 2004. Online can wait.
