ex rockstar dev says gta 5 cut a bunch of stuff, even minigames that were basically done

So a former Rockstar dev just said in an interview that GTA 5 had a ton of cut content. Like, minigames that were almost completely finished and they still got the axe. The quote was something about how Rockstar isn't afraid to kill their darlings and they'll throw out entire levels if it doesn't fit the vision.
I remember back when GTA 5 came out people datamined all sorts of stuff that never made it in. The skateboard, the prison interior, the whole stock market app that was supposed to be more interactive. Makes you wonder how much of that was actually playable at some point. The dev said some minigames were practically done, so maybe we were a few weeks from having something like bowling or darts in the final build.
What gets me is how this applies to GTA 6. We've been waiting so long and they've definitely scrapped and rebuilt things multiple times. I'm not saying that's bad, it's probably why their games feel so polished, but it's wild to think about how much content we'll never see. Like, there's probably a whole version of Vice City from 2019 that got tossed because it didn't feel right.
I just hope whatever they cut from 6 wasn't the fun side activities. GTA 5's world felt a little empty after the story, and if they had minigames ready to go and still cut them, that's a bummer. But I guess that's Rockstar for you, they'd rather have nothing than something half-baked.
