Someone Imported a Fan-Made Leonida Map Into GTA V and It's Wild

Leonida in Los Santos? Kinda

So while we're all sitting here twiddling our thumbs waiting for GTA VI, some folks decided to take matters into their own hands. A group called The Ambitioneers actually built a playable version of the Leonida map based on what we've seen from the trailer and dropped it into GTA V. YouTuber Dark Space ran through it with a crew and the result is pretty sick.

What's in the Video?

The video covers a bunch of stuff:

  • Recreating trailer shots inside the fan-built map
  • A full south-to-north race across the map
  • Size comparisons between GTA IV, GTA V, and the speculative Leonida map
  • Discussion about server meshing and how the map could expand over time

They're super upfront that this is speculative — it's based on trailer analysis, not anything official. So take the layout and scale with a grain of salt. Still, seeing someone actually run around in a rough approximation of Leonida hits different when we've all been starving for content.

Want to Try It?

The map files are available for both single player and FiveM servers if you want to mess around with it yourself. The Ambitioneers did the heavy lifting on the import side.

Just remember — this is a fan reconstruction from trailer footage, not the real deal. Expect approximations, not accuracy.

Big props to everyone who collaborated on the Discord call to make this happen. It's cool seeing the community build stuff instead of just refreshing Twitter for leak drops every five minutes.

How do you think the fan-made Leonida size compares to what we'll actually get at launch?

Watched the full race portion last night. Impressive effort from The Ambitioneers, but here's my take — size isn't the real question for us RP folks. It's density. A massive map with nothing between POIs kills server pop distribution worse than anything. We saw this with Sandy Shores being a ghost town on most FiveM servers. If the real Leonida packs Vice Beach, the Everglades sections, and downtown with actual stuff between them, even a smaller footprint beats empty sprawl. That said, the speculative map already has me thinking about territory systems and how factions could carve up neighborhoods.

The size comparison segment is where this gets interesting for me. The Ambitioneers clearly put serious work into extrapolating from trailer landmarks, but I think they might be underestimating the landmass. If you look at that aerial shot from Trailer 1 at 0:34, the urban sprawl extends way past what most fan maps place as the northern boundary. There's also that highway interchange that doesn't cleanly fit into their current layout. Could be rural arteries we haven't accounted for yet.

That said, bigger isn't automatically better — Rockstar's been pretty deliberate about density over sheer square footage since San Andreas. I'd rather a slightly smaller Leonida packed with vertical interiors than a stretched map with dead zones.
