A Top Boss At GTA 6 Company Take-Two Sold A Bunch Of Stock, But It’s Not What You Think

Saw a few people on stocktwits losing their minds over a Take-Two exec selling shares right before GTA 6. Turns out it's the most boring possible reason.

Lainie Goldstein, the CFO, sold 1,335 shares on September 2 at $217.65 each. That's about $282k. The filing says it was an automatic sell-to-cover to handle tax withholding. So she didn't dump because she knows something bad about the game. It's just payroll mechanics.

She still holds 282,039 shares after that. At current prices that's over $60 million. If she thought GTA 6 was going to flop, she wouldn't be sitting on that much.

The stock itself has been rough this year. Down around 16% since January, and down 14% over the last 12 months. It got hit hard when Google announced those AI game dev tools back in January and hasn't fully recovered. Some analysts think it could climb past $300 though, especially with GTA 6 coming.

One thing people forget is GTA isn't even most of Take-Two's revenue outside a launch window. Zelnick said it's under 15% in a non-release period. So the company isn't just GTA 6, even if that's all we care about.

Anyway, if you see headlines about execs selling, check the filing type before panicking. Sell-to-cover is routine. I'm not touching my pre-order over this.
