GTA ONLINE SHORT TRIPS: WHAT DO THE FRANKLIN AND LAMAR MISSIONS PAY?

Updated October 4, 2026 · Fan-maintained — not affiliated with Rockstar Games

Short Trips are a series of co-op missions featuring Franklin Clinton and Lamar Davis. The series has 3 missions: Seed Capital, Fire It Up and OG Kush. You cannot start these missions solo. The game requires 2 players for every Short Trip run. If you try to launch without a partner, the mission will not begin.

Short Trips became available with The Contract update. You access them through the Agency after you progress through the relevant storyline. Once unlocked, you can start a Short Trip from the Agency or from the Jobs menu. Each mission puts a player in control of Franklin and the other in control of Lamar. The missions are built around co-op play, so both players have active roles.

Short Trips payout table

Each mission pays a flat reward based on the difficulty you pick before launching. The payout does not change based on time, kills or performance. You get the same reward whether you finish quickly or slowly.

MissionNormal payoutHard payout
Seed Capital$50,000$62,500
Fire It Up$50,000$62,500
OG Kush$50,000$62,500

Normal vs Hard difficulty

You choose Normal or Hard in the mission lobby before the job starts. Hard pays $62,500 per mission. Normal pays $50,000 per mission. Hard is the better option if you want more money from each run. The missions are not especially difficult on either setting, so most players should pick Hard without much risk.

There is no bonus for completing all 3 missions on Hard. The only extra reward tied to difficulty is the higher per-mission payout of $62,500. If you run a mission on Normal, you get $50,000. If you run the same mission on Hard, you get $62,500. The difficulty choice does not affect the first-time bonus.

First-time bonus for Franklin and Lamar

The first time you complete a Short Trip mission as Franklin, you get a separate $100,000 bonus. The first time you complete a Short Trip mission as Lamar, you get another separate $100,000 bonus. These bonuses are independent of the mission payout and independent of difficulty. You get the $100,000 even if you complete the mission on Normal or Hard.

You do not need to complete all 3 missions to trigger a first-time bonus. The bonus applies to the first mission you finish as each character. After that, you will not get the $100,000 again for that character. Replaying the same mission as the same character gives only the regular mission pay, not the bonus.

Because Short Trips require 2 players, you and your partner can swap roles between missions. A player controls Franklin while the other controls Lamar. After a mission ends, you can switch who plays which character and run another Short Trip. That lets both players collect the first-time bonus for both characters. You need to complete a mission as Franklin and a mission as Lamar to collect both bonuses.

CharacterFirst-time bonus
Franklin$100,000
Lamar$100,000

Total mission pay

Completing every Franklin and Lamar mission pays a total of $150,000. That figure covers the base mission rewards for the 3 missions on Normal. The first-time bonuses are separate and are not included in that $150,000. The first-time bonuses are paid in addition to the regular mission pay.

If you run all 3 missions on Hard, each mission pays $62,500. The total for Hard is not listed here, but each individual mission pays $62,500. You can use that per-mission figure to plan your earnings.

Is the first-time bonus worth chasing?

The first-time bonus is a large separate reward for each character. You get $100,000 for Franklin and $100,000 for Lamar. That is on top of the regular mission pay, which is $50,000 on Normal or $62,500 on Hard per mission.

Since Short Trips are quick co-op missions, the first-time bonuses are worth doing if you have a reliable partner. The base pay alone is decent, but the $100,000 bonuses make the first run through each character much more rewarding. If you are short on cash, chasing both first-time bonuses is a solid use of your time.

You cannot start Short Trips solo, so you need a friend or a random player. If you are chasing the first-time bonuses, coordinate with your partner so both of you get the $100,000 for Franklin and the $100,000 for Lamar. That means running missions with swapped roles. You do not need to complete all 3 missions to get the bonuses, but you do need to finish a mission as each character.

How to start Short Trips

Short Trips become available through the Agency after you progress through The Contract storyline. You need to own an Agency and have completed the relevant setup missions. Once unlocked, you can launch Short Trips from the Agency or from the Jobs menu.

When you start a Short Trip, you pick Normal or Hard difficulty. Then you invite a second player. The mission will not launch until you have 2 players in the lobby. If your partner leaves mid-mission, the job will fail and you will have to restart.

Each Short Trip mission has a different objective. Seed Capital, Fire It Up and OG Kush all follow Franklin and Lamar through short story beats. The missions are designed for 2 players, so communication helps but is not strictly required. You can complete them with a random player as long as both of you stay alive.

Common questions

Can you get the first-time bonus more than once?

No. The $100,000 bonus for each character is a first-time reward only. After you collect it for Franklin, you will not get it again for Franklin. The same applies to Lamar.

Does difficulty affect the first-time bonus?

No. The first-time bonus is $100,000 regardless of whether you play on Normal or Hard. Difficulty only changes the regular mission payout.

Can you play Short Trips solo?

No. Short Trips require 2 players. You cannot start a Short Trip mission without a partner.

Do you need to complete all 3 missions to get the first-time bonus?

No. The first-time bonus triggers on the first mission you complete as each character. You do not need to finish all 3 missions.
