GTA 6 pre-orders go live midnight June 25th — but physical copies won't have a disc inside

Pre-orders are almost here, folks
Set your alarms — Rockstar just confirmed that GTA 6 pre-orders kick off at midnight on June 25th, and it sounds like that's local time regardless of where you live. So basically we're all rushing the store at the same time. Good luck with those servers.
There'll be multiple editions to choose from, though the exact breakdown of what each tier includes hasn't been fully detailed yet. We do finally have official pricing though, so at least we know what we're saving up for.
The early access catch
Here's something interesting: physical editions of the game are apparently shipping on November 12th, a full five days before the November 19th release date. Sounds great on paper — get your copy early, maybe preload, be ready to go at launch. But there's a twist.
No disc. Seriously.
If you're the type who likes having a physical box on the shelf, prepare to be disappointed. The physical edition? It doesn't come with a disc. You'll get a box with a code inside. That's it. So that early shipping window is really just giving you time to download the game before the unlock, not actually play early.
Physical collectors, how are we feeling about a box with a download code?
It's not entirely surprising given where the industry's been heading, but for a game this massive it still stings a little. No resale value, no lending it to a friend, no actually owning something tangible beyond a piece of cardboard.
Anyway — who's staying up for the midnight pre-order rush, and which edition are you eyeing?

Honestly the no-disc thing is whatever, but here's what I'm thinking about that five-day early shipping: preload means we can actually inspect the map files before launch day. Remember when GTA V's map leaked through preload data? We could be analyzing Vice City's boroughs and coastline days before we're supposed to see them.
Also, if the download is as massive as I suspect — GTA V's map was 49 square miles and this is supposedly bigger — you'll need those five days on slower connections. The map data alone has to be enormous.
No disc means no resale value. That's straight-up lost equity. Remember when you could flip a used GTA disc for $20-30? Gone. Rockstar basically locking you into full retail with zero recovery. At these prices that's like grinding three full Cayo runs just to cover what you can't earn back. Day-one digital was always the play for profit-per-hour anyway — preload, unlock, go. But calling a code in a box "physical" is some serious nightclub-empty-hype levels of misleading.
The no-disc thing is annoying but honestly not surprising. What I'm actually looking at: that five-day early ship is solid tactical planning. Launch day downloads are going to melt servers. Having the code early means we can preload and actually hit the ground running on the 19th instead of watching a progress bar with everyone else. Plan around the download window, not just the unlock.
No disc means no satisfying needle drop when you slide it in. That physical ritual matters — like tuning into Flash FM for the first time, that crackle before the music hits. A box with a code inside is just theater prop, not a soundtrack. Five days early just to stare at a download bar. Feels hollow, man.
No disc is a bummer, but honestly I'm more concerned about whether the early download means we'll actually get to play at midnight on release day or if the servers will melt. Remember the GTA Online launch nightmare?
That said, I'll miss the physical map inserts. The San Andreas map that came in the box was essential for mission planning — I had that thing pinned to my wall with markers for Zero's missions and the side mission spawn points. A download code in a box just feels hollow.
Day one digital for me, I guess.
