Caught the VGC piece this morning and the quote from the Rockstar writer is one of those things that sounds small but actually says a lot about the tone they're going for. They said GTA 6 is deliberately avoiding direct political references. Not that the series was ever a straight up political cartoon, but it's good to hear them say it out loud.

The writer's reasoning was pretty simple. They don't want to recreate the exact world we live in. That makes sense to me. GTA has always worked best when it's a twisted mirror, not a documentary. Vice City in the 80s wasn't a shot for shot remake of Miami politics. It was a vibe, a neon soaked exaggeration. If they tried to make Leonida a 1:1 parody of Florida's current news cycle, it would date the game before it even launches.

I know some people were worried after the first trailer that they'd lean too hard into Florida man jokes or whatever. But this quote suggests they're pulling back from that. The world is supposed to feel familiar but not like you're watching CNN with better graphics. That's the sweet spot for me.

Also worth noting this is the same team that gave us GTA 5's satire, which was sharp but never really named real politicians or parties. They poked at the culture, not the candidates. If GTA 6 keeps that approach, I'm all for it. The last thing I want is a game that feels like it's trying to score points instead of just being fun.

I'm not saying the game won't have opinions. It clearly will. But there's a difference between having a point of view and turning every mission into a lecture. Rockstar seems to get that. Now I just want to see how that plays out in the actual story with Lucia and Jason.
