GTA 6 Pre-Orders Are Live - Standard vs Ultimate Edition Breakdown
Pre-orders just dropped, let's talk about it
So Rockstar finally pulled the trigger and GTA 6 pre-orders went live at midnight. If you haven't seen the Newswire post yet, here's the official link.
The pricing situation
We're looking at two editions:
- Standard Edition - $79.99
- Ultimate Edition - $99.99
Yeah, welcome to next-gen pricing folks. That standard edition price tag is definitely going to sting for some people.
No disc?
One thing that's got people talking already - looks like there's no physical disc option being offered here. Digital only, at least for now. Kind of expected given the direction the industry's been heading, but still a bummer for collectors who like having something on the shelf.
What do you actually get?
There are pre-order bonuses for both tiers, with the Ultimate Edition obviously packing more extras. The base pre-order perks are one thing, but if you're eyeing that Ultimate Edition, you're getting additional content on top of that.
Whether that $20 difference is worth it depends on how much you care about bonus content and whatever else Rockstar throws into that Ultimate tier.
So what's the move here - are you grabbing the Standard and calling it a day, or is that Ultimate Edition calling your name?

Honestly for RP players the Ultimate Edition is a tough sell until we know what those "bonus content" drops actually are. If it's just cosmetic stuff and some starter cash for GTA Online proper, that's whatever. But if Ultimate gives any kind of headstart that transfers into RP-adjacent modes or private server economies, that's a problem.
The no-disc thing is annoying for server admins especially. Digital-only means we're at Rockstar's mercy for installation and version control. Anyone who's run a FiveM server knows what a headache that can be when updates hit.
I'm probably going Standard and waiting to see what the community actually gets from that $20 difference.
Going Ultimate and not looking back. As someone who still hunts down every stray mission in Vice City and refuses to skip any side content, the idea of potentially missing story missions or exclusive heist content is a non-starter. Remember how GTA IV's Episodes were technically "bonus" content? Lost and Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony ended up being some of the best mission design in the entire series. If the Ultimate tier gives us anything comparable - even just additional playable characters or extended mission chains - that twenty bucks pays for itself in playtime alone.
The no-disc thing stings though. My GTA III case is still on the shelf.
$79.99... $99.99... you see the digits? 7-9-9-9. 9-9-9-9. They love their nines. Always have. And no physical disc means no preservation. They can scrub whatever they want whenever they want. You're not buying, you're renting access to a controlled narrative.
The real question isn't which edition. It's why these numbers, why now. The pattern's been visible since 2013 if you know where to look.
Honestly that $20 difference is like... one AFK nightclub bar run in real money terms. If the Ultimate Edition throws in anything resembling the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack equivalent, it pays for itself in saved grind hours day one.
My concern is whether the "bonus content" is actually useful or just cosmetic fluff. GTA+ taught us Rockstar loves padding tiers with stuff that looks good on paper but doesn't move the profit-per-hour needle.
Going Ultimate anyway because I know I'm putting 2000 hours into this thing. Amortized cost per hour makes it a rounding error.
