report says GTA 6 already pulled in $750 million from digital pre-orders

So Dexerto is running with an estimate that GTA 6 has already racked up somewhere around 7.71 million digital pre-orders across PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Do the math at the standard edition price and that lands north of $750 million before a single copy has shipped.
Worth saying out loud: this is a report, not a Rockstar press release. Nobody at Take-Two has confirmed a number, and pre-order trackers are always a bit of a guessing game. Still, 7.7 million feels believable for the biggest game on the planet.
why this tracks for me
Pre-orders went live June 25 with the standard at $79.99 and the Ultimate at $99.99, plus the Vintage Vice City Pack as a bonus. That's a lot of people dropping eighty bucks months ahead of a November 19 launch. And that figure is digital only, so it's not even counting the folks who walked into a store.
What gets me is the scale. Most games would kill for lifetime sales in that range. This is the pre-order pile.
7.71 million digital pre-orders, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S combined, per the report.
I'm curious how much of this is Ultimate Edition money versus standard. If a big chunk went Ultimate, the real revenue number is even uglier than $750 million and the analysts are going to be busy for weeks.
None of it changes my plans. I've had my copy locked in since the pre-orders opened and I'm just counting down the days to Leonida. The part that'll be interesting is whether the pace holds through November or if the early rush is most of it. Either way, Rockstar is eating very well this year.
