netflix getting the extended look first is fine, actually
I keep seeing the same take everywhere and it's driving me nuts. People acting like Rockstar putting the extended look on Netflix first is some kind of betrayal. Like they've never done targeted marketing before. They used to drop trailers on cable and in game magazines. This is the 2026 version of that.
Netflix has a massive user base. A ton of GTA fans already have it. When the thing premieres there Thursday, millions of people will watch it right away. It'll climb into Netflix's top 10, probably stay there for a few days, maybe even hit number one. That's free advertising to casual viewers who might not be following Rockstar's YouTube channel. They see it, get curious, maybe pick up the game in November. How is that evil corpo behavior?
The paywall argument is weak too. It's on YouTube six hours later. Six hours. If you don't have Netflix, you wait until 9pm ET and watch it free. Or do a trial if you're that desperate. People are acting like Rockstar locked it behind a $20 subscription forever.
I'll just wait for the YouTube drop. No big deal. And if the Netflix premiere gets more normies hyped for Leonida, that's good for all of us. More players, more support, more GTA Online chaos down the line.
