With GTA 6, Rockstar couldn't "just trot out something" fans would already expect

Saw the GamesRadar piece floating around and the headline alone is doing a lot of heavy lifting. The quote about not being able to 'just trot out something' fans would already expect, paired with that 'Big expectations, meet big game' line, pretty much sums up where we're at with GTA 6.

Rockstar's been in a weird spot for years now. GTA 5 set the bar so high that any follow up was going to get picked apart no matter what. If they played it safe and gave us more of the same, people would call it stale. If they went too weird, people would say it's not GTA anymore. The fact that they're talking about it in those terms, not trotting out the expected thing, tells me they know the tightrope they're walking.

I don't need every new feature to be revolutionary. I just want the world to feel alive in a way that GTA 5 stopped feeling after a decade. Vice City already has the nostalgia angle locked down, and Leonida as a whole seems like it's giving them room to stretch the formula without breaking it. The pressure is real though. This is the biggest release of the decade, maybe the biggest ever, and every interview quote gets dissected like a thesis.

At this point I'm less interested in what they say and more interested in what actually lands when we're all playing in a few weeks. The talk about expectations is nice, but the game has to back it up. That's the only part that matters now.
