I saw this viral clip from some self-made millionaire guy making the rounds. His whole pitch is that GTA 6 can save you up to $5,000. The Insider Gaming write-up says he's not entirely wrong, and I get it.

If you're the type who blows cash every weekend on bars, clubs, Ubers, takeout because you're bored, then a game you're actually obsessed with changes that math fast. An $80 copy and a night in Leonida beats a $200 Saturday out. Do that for a few months and yeah, the savings add up. It's the same argument people used to make about WoW subscriptions being cheaper than going out, just with better car chases.

I'm not sure $5,000 is realistic for everyone. I've already spent on the Ultimate Edition and took two days off work, so my ledger is a little different. But if the game hooks me the way GTA 5 did in 2013, my non-essential spending is going to crater for at least a few weeks. No impulse Amazon orders, no pricey coffees, no paying cover to stand in a loud room.

The funnier part is this guy is a self-made millionaire giving financial advice through a GTA 6 clip. Feels very 2026. Maybe his actual point is just that the game is a cheap hobby compared to everything else people do for entertainment. One $80 purchase that could eat hundreds of hours is solid value per hour, even before you factor in the money you didn't spend while playing.

I don't know if I'd call it saving money though. More like redirecting it. I'll probably end up buying snacks, a new controller, maybe some Leonida merch if the launch drop is good. But compared to a ski trip or a music festival, staying home with Lucia and Jason is a bargain.

Curious if anyone here actually thinks they'll come out ahead financially because of launch month, or if we're all just lying to ourselves while pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition?
