Fire Emblem's new Direct is August 4, but all I see is another game running from GTA 6's November launch

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Nintendo Direct Announced For This Week

Nintendo just announced a 20-minute Direct for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave this Wednesday. The game itself is a Switch 2 exclusive, first for the series, and it's dropping September 17. That's the part that caught my eye.

September is absolutely packed this year. We've got publishers cramming everything they can into that window, and it's not hard to figure out why. Nobody wants to be anywhere near GTA 6 in November. Rockstar's beast is going to eat the entire holiday season, so everyone's trying to get their sales in early.

The Fire Emblem stuff itself looks decent enough. Four champions fighting in a tournament, some kind of crest ability system, social events between matches. But honestly, I'm just sitting here thinking about how many games I'll be ignoring in September because I'm saving up for the Ultimate Edition. $70-$80 for a standard copy of Fire Emblem, $120 for the special edition. That's cute. I've already got my $100 set aside for Leonida.

It's kind of funny watching the industry scramble. Call of Duty is doing the same thing, trying to get their launch in before GTA 6 sucks all the oxygen out of the room. Smart move, but I don't think it'll matter much. Once that second trailer dropped, everything else became background noise.
