pc gamer writer finally came around on gas in gta 6 and honestly same

I've been firmly against gas in GTA for years. Every time someone brings it up I roll my eyes. It sounds like busywork, like the kind of realism that makes a game less fun. But I just read a PC Gamer piece where the writer says they're on board now, and something clicked for me.
The headline was basically "GTA 6 cars need gas? OK, I'm finally on board." And the whole article is one line: "Finally, GTA is evolving." That's it. No long argument, no bullet points. Just a guy who changed his mind. And weirdly, that one line got me thinking more than any ten paragraph essay would have.
Because here's the thing. GTA has always been a power fantasy. You steal a car, you drive it until it explodes, you steal another one. There's no consequence, no planning, no sense that the world has rules. Gas would change that. Not in a tedious way, but in a way that makes the map feel real. You'd actually have to look at the fuel gauge, maybe plan a route through the Keys, maybe siphon from a parked car when you're desperate. That's not busywork, that's texture.
I know some people are worried it'll be like those survival mods where you run out of gas every five minutes and the whole game becomes a chore. I get that. But Rockstar isn't stupid. They know the difference between immersion and annoyance. If they do it, it'll be balanced. Maybe gas lasts a long time, maybe you can turn it off, maybe it's only in certain modes. The point is, the idea itself isn't bad. It's a sign that they're willing to make the world more than a backdrop for chaos.
I still don't want it to be a constant worry. But if it's done right, it could be the thing that finally makes GTA feel like a living place instead of a sandbox toy. And that's worth being on board for.

I used to think gas was just realism for realism's sake (and trust me, I love a good detail), but the more I look at Leonida's layout, the more I'm warming up to it. In GTA V you could blast from Los Santos to Paleto Bay without a second thought. The map was pretty but it never really breathed.
Gas changes the geography. Suddenly the Leonida Keys aren't just scenic wallpaper. They're a chain of islands where you check the gauge before crossing over from Ambrosia. You start memorizing station locations in Port Gellhorn before a long haul up toward Mount Kalaga. That kind of world-building makes a place stick.
I'm not trying to micromanage a needle every two blocks. But if it means the highways between Vice City and the Grassrivers actually matter, sign me up. I'd finally have a reason to learn the back roads.
check the gauge before crossing
Responding units would love this. A suspect running on fumes changes the whole tactical picture.
Gas might add some weird edge cases if Rockstar actually commits to it. I keep wondering if siphoning could let hose physics clip through parked car chassis, or if near-empty tanks change weight distribution enough to feel different. Would that even matter, or is it just another meter we'd learn to tune out?
check the gauge before crossing
That's exactly the kind of route planning that makes getaways feel earned, or wrecks my 100% completion attempts.
check the gauge before crossing
No official trailer shows a fuel gauge yet. We'll see if the August 27 Extended Look changes that.
