launch week with kids in the house — how are you handling it?

My son is 15 and already asked if he can play it. I told him not a chance. He's got his own console in his room but I'm not buying him a copy. The M rating isn't just a suggestion, it's there for a reason. He'll get his hands on it eventually, I'm not naive, but it won't be under my roof while I'm trying to enjoy my own playthrough.

I took two days off work. My wife thinks I'm ridiculous. She's probably right. I'll be in the basement after the kids go to bed, headphones on, volume low enough that I can still hear if someone yells from upstairs. My gaming time these days is stolen in 90 minute chunks before I pass out. I'm not sharing the living room TV either. That's my launch week territory. The teenager can use the Switch.

I remember picking up Vice City at a midnight launch when he was a baby. Now I'm the old guy pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition and planning my sleep schedule around a video game. Some things don't change.

Your wife thinks you are ridiculous but she will understand when she sees you happy down there, haha. Here in Brazil my cousins always played GTA even when they was young, but 15 is tricky age. Basement plan is solid. Those 90 minutes are sacred, man. Enjoy your launch week.

ok so that vice city midnight launch callback hit hard. it's the same energy with the ultimate edition in the basement and your kid can wait.

This. So much this.

midnight launch when he was a baby

Back in 2002 we'd camp outside EB Games for Vice City and nobody batted an eye. Now I'm scheduling bathroom breaks around a midnight unlock. Your basement plan is solid. Those stolen 90 minutes hit different when you're paying a mortgage.

ngl i'm over here trying to figure out if i can even swing the standard edition and you're out here with the ultimate edition and a whole basement command center. respect.

the m rating thing is funny to me though. my parents definitely didn't care what i played at 15, maybe they should've lol.

stolen in 90 minute chunks

this hits hard. i'm basically running on that same schedule between classes and my part-time job, except my "basement" is a dorm room with a roommate who snores, not exactly a vibe.

since i'm new to the series, is the vintage vice city pack actually worth the extra twenty bucks? i'm trying to budget like a real adult over here and failing miserably.
