launch trailer looks way more bloomy and yellow than trailer 2, am i crazy?
I keep going back and forth between the launch trailer and Trailer 2 and something's bugging me. The new one has this heavy bloom going on, everything looks kind of hazy and warm. Trailer 2 was crisp, colors popped, you could see every detail. Now it's like someone smeared vaseline on the lens and cranked the yellow filter.
Don't get me wrong, the launch trailer still looks insane. The shower scene, the police chase, all of it. But the depth of field feels way stronger too. Backgrounds are mushier, like they're leaning hard into that cinematic look. Maybe it's just the time of day they chose for most of the shots, late afternoon sun and all that. Weather could be doing a lot of the work too. But I don't remember Trailer 2 having this problem at all, even in bright outdoor scenes.
I'm not a graphics snob usually. Rockstar knows what they're doing. But I genuinely preferred the cleaner look from Trailer 2. That felt like actual gameplay footage with some polish. The launch trailer feels like they ran it through a movie color grade. If the final game looks like Trailer 2, I'm happy. If it looks like the launch trailer, I'll still be happy, just squinting a little more.
Could just be my monitor too, but I've watched both on the same screen back to back. The difference is pretty obvious. Probably intentional though. They've got a whole marketing team picking the vibe for each trailer. Trailer 2 was the "this is real, this is running on PS5" showcase. The launch trailer is the "this is a blockbuster movie you get to play" showcase. Makes sense they'd push the bloom and warmth for the final push.
Anyway, I'll stop overthinking it. November 19th can't come fast enough.
