two protagonists is the right call, gta 5 spread itself too thin
Franklin got done dirty in V and I'm still not over it. Three protagonists sounded cool on paper but one of them ended up feeling like an afterthought. Franklin had no real arc, his antagonists were forgettable, and by the end I was just waiting to get back to Michael or Trevor. That's not how a main character should feel.
I don't think that'll happen with Jason and Lucia. Rockstar seems way more focused this time. Two characters means they can actually build both of them up properly instead of splitting screentime three ways. Niko worked because the whole story was his. CJ worked because it was his. Arthur worked because it was his. GTA V proved that juggling three leads can leave one of them undercooked.
I get why some people liked the switch mechanic. It was fun for chaos and variety. But story wise it hurt more than it helped. Franklin's side of things felt like filler half the time and his missions were the ones I rushed through. With two protagonists, Rockstar can give us proper development for both without one becoming the boring one you're stuck with between the good parts.
Jason and Lucia already have a different dynamic than anything in V. A couple, partners, whatever their relationship actually is. That alone gives them a reason to share the spotlight. I'm hoping Rockstar makes us actually care about both of them by the end, the way they did with Arthur. Two protagonists works perfectly fine if they commit to it.
Do you think Rockstar can actually give Jason and Lucia equal depth or will one of them end up as the Franklin of this game?
