Remember when Dan Houser left and half this sub acted like the story was doomed? Or when people found out there were female writers on the team and lost their minds about the game going "woke"? I remember. And honestly, every single one of those takes aged like milk before the game even shipped.

The new key art for the GTA VI album alone has me convinced this is going to be one of the best storylines Rockstar has ever done. These are the same people who gave us Red Dead Redemption 2, and now they're working with a Bonnie and Clyde dynamic that's been done a million times in movies and books, but never quite like this. What sets it apart for me is the choices. We're not just watching Lucia and Jason's story, we're going to be in it, making calls that actually matter.

Here's why I think this story is going to hit different:

  • Most of us who started with GTA III are in our late 20s to early 40s now. I'm 32, first played GTA 3 when I was 7. Jason and Lucia look like they're mid to late 20s, early 30s max. That's us.
  • Every other GTA protagonist has been older than me when I played. Tommy, CJ, Niko, Michael, Franklin. This is the first time I'll be playing as someone my own age, dealing with the same kind of life stuff. That relatability is huge.
  • Leonida feels alive in a way no other map has. The more connected we get to the world, the harder it is not to care about what happens to the people in it.
  • Rockstar has used basically the same formula for 20+ years and it still works. They know exactly how to pace a story, how to build characters, how to make you feel something.
  • This whole rollout since preorders opened has been on another level. Everything they've dropped has so much style and confidence. It's not just marketing, it's a statement.

I don't speak for everyone, but if you still think this game is going to be anything short of amazing, I genuinely don't know what to tell you. The people who doubted the story were wrong about Dan Houser, wrong about the writers, wrong about the "woke" panic. They'll be wrong about this too.

What's the one thing about Lucia and Jason's story that you're most hyped to see play out?
