Gamescom chat was half Dolly Parton RIP and half GTA 6 spam, what a weird night

All Anyone At Gamescom Can Talk About Is Dolly Parton

Caught the Gamescom Opening Night Live stream last night and the Twitch chat was something else.

Dolly Parton passed away at 80, announced by her nephew Bryan Seaver on Instagram right as the show kicked off. The chat immediately filled with #RIPDOLLY, and it kept going for over an hour. Meanwhile people were still spamming GTA 6!!! every few seconds. It was this weird mix of mourning and hype that only a gaming livestream could produce.

Dolly didn't have much of a gaming footprint. A Words With Friends collab back in 2020, a couple songs in Pop'n Music on Wii, and a pinball machine from 1979. That's about it. But her nephew's post said she was always on your TV, your record player, your phone playlist, becoming part of your family whether you liked it or not. That hit different during a show where everyone's waiting for the next big thing.

I think that's why the chat couldn't let go. GTA 6 is the biggest thing on the horizon, but Dolly was a constant for decades. Two completely different kinds of anticipation colliding in one Twitch chat.

Do you think Rockstar would ever slip a Dolly Parton song onto a Vice City radio station as a tribute, or is that too on the nose?

Rockstar doesn't do quick tribute patches. Their licensing team moves slower than a Union Depository vault drill with randoms. If Dolly's estate clears anything, it'll land on a country station past Vice City limits.

Leonida's got Grassrivers and Ambrosia. Prime backroads radio territory. Southern flavor fits better out there than downtown synthwave. I'll take a dirt road anthem over city pop if I'm moving product through the swamp anyway.

I'd rather they nail core systems before launch. Comms stability during co-op jobs matters more than a playlist addition. Clean audio for footsteps, ambient cues, and vehicle damage beats a nostalgia drop every single time.

If it happens, nice touch. Not banking on it though.

Exactly. I'd rather they nail vehicle weight and co-op stability than chase a sympathy license. Tributes are easy marketing. A stable November launch isn't.

I've logged 100% completion across every 3D and HD era release. Licensing teams don't pivot overnight.

If Dolly surfaces on a Grassrivers station after launch, so be it. I'm tracking mission density and ambient audio cues for co-op sequences. Chat spam won't adjust vehicle weight.

Soundtrack's half the build. You don't run a midnight highway pull without the right station locked in.

Dolly crackling on some Grassrivers AM band? Actually perfect for a rusty V8 build crawling swamp roads. Blown speakers and mud on the fender. That vibe hits different.

Real talk though. I need them to nail the turbo flutter and transmission whine first. If my drift set sounds like a vacuum cleaner again I'm gonna LOSE it.

Tribute tracks are cool. But give me clean audio on a slammed setup rolling through Vice City at 3am with the windows down. That's the real mood.
