Mortal Shell 2 is dropping in August, and it's not even pretending to compete with GTA 6

Mortal Shell 2 is the latest game to join the Grand Theft Auto 6 release crush, but I don't think it has much to worry about because it looks sick as hell

PC Gamer just pointed out that Mortal Shell 2 is the latest game to get a date in the same year as GTA 6. August 2026. Cold Symmetry's soulslike is coming in hot, and honestly? It looks sick as hell.

I know we're all counting down to November 19, but I've been keeping an eye on this one. The first Mortal Shell was a solid little AA take on the formula, and the sequel seems to be going bigger and weirder. The combat looks weighty, the art direction is grim in all the right ways, and they're not shying away from the jank that makes these games memorable.

What's funny is how the industry is still tiptoeing around Rockstar's release date. We saw that indie dev blink and move their launch, but Mortal Shell 2 is just planting a flag in August like it's no big deal. And honestly, it probably isn't. Three months is a lifetime in gaming. By the time November hits, anyone who wanted to play it will have already finished it twice.

I'm not saying it'll outsell GTA 6 or anything ridiculous. But it's nice to see a studio confident enough to drop their game in the same calendar year without panicking. The soulslike crowd is pretty dedicated anyway, and they'll show up. I might even grab it to tide me over while we wait for the real chaos in Leonida.
