zelda direct was a bust, wind waker hd still trapped on wii u, and ocarina remake lands right before gta 6

Caught the Zelda 40th anniversary direct earlier and man, what a letdown if you were hoping for some classic ports. Nintendo spent basically the whole show on the Ocarina of Time remake. Which looks great, don't get me wrong. But I was really hoping they'd finally pull Wind Waker HD off the Wii U and give it a proper Switch 2 release.

That game's been stuck on a dead console since 2013. The original GameCube version hit Switch Online last year, but the HD remaster is way better. Smoother framerate, faster loading, quality of life stuff that makes the second half less of a slog. Same deal with Twilight Princess HD. Both just sitting there on the Wii U while Nintendo pretends they don't exist.

I thought for the 40th anniversary they'd do something like Mario 3D All-Stars. Remember that? Three classic Mario games in one package, limited time only for some reason. Would've been perfect for Zelda. Instead we got a deep dive on Ocarina and not even a trailer for the live action movie. Kind of a miss.

The timing is what gets me though. Ocarina of Time remake drops November 5. That's two weeks before GTA 6. I know Zelda fans are hyped, but I can't help thinking Rockstar's gonna eat that launch window alive. GTA 6 is the biggest release of the year, maybe the decade. People are gonna be saving their money and their time for Leonida. A Zelda remake two weeks earlier is a nice appetizer, but it's not gonna pull attention away for long.

I'll probably grab Ocarina at some point, but not day one. Not with GTA 6 pre-ordered and the Ultimate Edition already burning a hole in my wallet. Nintendo had a chance to do something special for the anniversary and they fumbled it. Wind Waker HD deserves better than being a Wii U exclusive forever. Maybe the 50th anniversary will finally do it justice.
