the overhyped takes make no sense after that extended look

Saw another 'GTA VI is overhyped' comment in a thread and I keep rolling my eyes. After that extended look I genuinely don't get where that take comes from. Some people try to soften it by saying the game is overly popularized instead, which I can almost see, but even that falls apart pretty quick.

GTA V didn't stay relevant for 13 years by accident. That game kept pulling players back through three console generations because Rockstar knows how to build a world people want to live in. The online side alone carried it for over a decade. If anything, GTA VI has a higher bar to clear, and the extended look made it seem like they're actually going to clear it.

And RDR2. I don't need to rehash how good that story was, but it's the reason I stopped doubting Rockstar's narrative ambitions. The writing in that game is still the benchmark for me. Arthur's arc, the camp dynamics, the way side characters felt like real people. If GTA VI gets anywhere near that level with Lucia and Jason, the hype is justified.

I think some people just like being contrarian when a game gets this much attention. The wait has been long, the marketing cycle is huge, and every little detail gets dissected. That can feel exhausting from the outside. But calling the game itself overhyped after what Rockstar has shown us feels lazy.

The extended look was the first time I felt like the wait was actually going to be worth it. Not because of one feature or one scene, just the overall density of everything they showed. The hype is earned. November can't come soon enough.
