netflix got tens of thousands of signups just from the gta 6 extended look
Saw the numbers floating around and it's kind of wild. Insider Gaming is reporting that the GTA 6 Extended Look pulled in tens of thousands of new Netflix sign-ups. People literally created accounts just to watch a trailer. For a game that's still two months out.
I remember when Rockstar said Netflix would get the first window for the Extended Look. A lot of folks were annoyed, myself included. Why make us go to a streaming service for a trailer? But this is the answer. Netflix got a spike in subscribers off a single video. That's the kind of pull GTA has.
It also makes me think about how Rockstar is treating this whole marketing cycle. They don't need to do much. Drop a trailer on a platform, watch the sign-ups roll in. The Extended Look itself was already huge on YouTube after, but Netflix got the exclusive first run and apparently it worked exactly as planned.
I'm not surprised though. GTA 6 is the one game people will sign up for a service to see. My cousin texted me asking if I had a Netflix login the night it dropped. I told him to wait an hour for YouTube. He didn't want to wait. That's the energy around this game.
Rockstar knows exactly what they're doing with this rollout.
