netflix pulled 100k new us sign-ups from the gta 6 extended look, analyst says

Ampere Analysis put out some numbers on the Extended Look and they're kind of wild. The 26-minute video was exclusive to Netflix for a six-hour window before it hit YouTube and Rockstar's site, and apparently that window did some heavy lifting.
They're claiming more than 100,000 people signed up for Netflix in the US on that day alone just to watch it. That makes it the third-biggest Netflix event of 2026 for new subscriber sign-ups, behind the final season of Stranger Things and the Rousey vs Carano fight.
The reactivation stat is maybe even more interesting. Over 5% of US Netflix members who hadn't watched anything in the previous 30 days came back specifically for the Extended Look before watching anything else. Ampere says that reactivation rate beat every show and movie on the platform during that same window.
Louise Wooldridge from Ampere said the six-hour exclusive window shows the pulling power of a major gaming event, and that it gives Netflix a way to compete with YouTube for gamer attention while bringing lapsed viewers back. For Rockstar it opens GTA 6 up to people outside the usual core audience.
I know some people were annoyed the Extended Look hit Netflix first, but this kind of explains why Rockstar did it. Netflix clearly paid up or made it worth their while, and the numbers back it up. A 26-minute deep dive is a weird thing to drive subscriptions, but GTA 6 hype is on another level right now.
Would you have signed up for a streaming service just to watch a GTA 6 trailer six hours early, or is that too much?
