A summary popped up on the sub with extra bits from Schreier that didn't make the Bloomberg piece. A few of these details are kind of wild.

The one that got me is the timeline. Some artists have been on GTA 6 for 11 years. Since 2015, basically. The map gets worked on first, so a chunk of the team never even touched RDR2 during its whole dev cycle. They were already building Leonida while the rest of Rockstar was shipping Red Dead. That explains a lot about why the world feels so dense in the trailers.

Rob Nelson talked about the weapon system too. They wanted it to be like RDR2 where you can't just carry every gun at once. They apparently spent months, maybe years, trying to replace the weapon wheel with some other UI. In the end they just put the weapon wheel back in. I'm not mad about it. The wheel works. But it's funny to think about how much time went into a feature that ended up right where it started.

Art team numbers are also nuts. GTA 5 had five or six people on art production. GTA 6 has 65. That's a massive jump.

Then there's Aaron Garbut saying nobody at the studio has the whole game in their head. Not even the top devs know everything that's in it. For a game this size, that kind of makes sense. You can't hold every interior, every side mission, every random encounter in one brain.

The horse balls thing from RDR2 got brought up again. Turns out that wasn't some executive mandate. A random dev had the time and resources, thought it'd be a cool detail, and just did it. Schreier says to expect a lot of that in GTA 6. That's the part I keep thinking about. If that's the culture, then all the tiny stuff people are spotting in the extended look, the wildlife, the storefronts, the weird little NPC behaviors, probably came from the same place. Some dev had an afternoon and a weird idea.

It's easy to assume Rockstar is this top down machine where every pixel gets approved by a committee. But these tidbits make it sound a lot more chaotic in a good way.
