GTA 6's map is almost as big as Rockstar's last 3 games combined, contains 'an order of magnitude more interiors'

PC Gamer ran a piece today on the map. The headline stat is that GTA 6's map is nearly the size of Rockstar's last three games combined, and the interior count is supposedly an order of magnitude higher than what they've done before.

The co-studio head Aaron Garbut gave a quote that basically says the team went over every random location. You can walk into some nothing alley and there's still a bunch of thought behind it. That's the kind of thing I wanted to hear after the Extended Look, because a big map with empty space would've been the worst case scenario.

I keep thinking about how much of Leonida we've actually seen. Vice City, the Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Mount Kalaga. If those areas are all filled with interiors on top of the landmass, the density could be unreal. GTA 5 had a huge map but most buildings were just shells. RDR2 had fewer interiors but each one felt hand placed. If GTA 6 really has ten times the interiors of their recent games, that's a different scale entirely.

My only worry is performance. The console versions are going to have to stream all that interior detail on PS5 and Series X. Hopefully Rockstar's new engine handles it without turning downtown Vice City into a slideshow.

Anyone else surprised by the size claim? I figured the map would be bigger than GTA 5 but not that much bigger. Three games combined is wild.

What interior are you most hoping actually opens up when the game drops?
