Is GTA 6 Coming To Switch 2? Ask Rockstar, Nintendo Says

Devon Pritchard got cornered about GTA 6 on Switch 2 and gave the most Nintendo answer possible. She didn't confirm anything, didn't deny anything, just said it's a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar and there's nothing to announce on her end right now.

That's from a Variety interview, and it's the kind of non-answer that's going to keep the port begging alive for another few months. We already knew GTA 6 is locked to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S for November 19. No PC, no Switch 2, nothing else confirmed. But the Switch 2 rumors have been swirling since May 2025 when NateTheHate said Rockstar was running tests to see if the game could even work on the hardware. He was careful to say that doesn't mean it's planned, just that devs test feasibility all the time.

Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick has also said the company feels good about Switch 2 and might bring some older titles over, but he was clear that not every game will make the jump. That leaves GTA 6 in this weird limbo where it's technically possible but nobody will say yes or no.

What gets me is the history here. Rockstar did put the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition on Switch in 2021, and that runs on Switch 2 through backwards compatibility. Before that we had Chinatown Wars on DS, and the original top-down GTAs on Game Boy. So Rockstar isn't allergic to Nintendo hardware. But GTA 6 is a whole different beast. I genuinely don't know if the Switch 2 can handle a game this size without cutting half the experience.

I'm not holding my breath for a Switch 2 version at launch. If it happens, it'll probably be a late port like the PC version, and even that isn't confirmed. For now I'll be playing on PS5 and watching the Switch 2 crowd argue about whether a portable GTA 6 would even be worth it.
