rockstar's $400 collector's edition doesn't even come with the game

Saw this on Insider Gaming and had to read the headline twice. Rockstar actually put up a GTA 6 collector's edition for $400 and the game itself is not in the box.

I get that collector's editions are mostly about the physical stuff. Statues, art books, whatever. But four hundred bucks with no disc or code is wild. At that point you're buying a merch bundle that happens to share a name with the game.

The article says it comes with a number of accessories, but doesn't go into exactly what. So I'm not gonna pretend I know what's inside. Still, the price alone makes me pause. The Ultimate Edition is $99.99 and that actually includes the game. So you'd be dropping $400 on top of whatever edition you already bought.

I've seen people defend this kind of thing before. Say it's for hardcore collectors who already pre-ordered the digital version. Fine. But Rockstar knows the demand for anything Vice City themed is through the roof right now. Slapping a $400 price on a box with no game feels like they're testing how far the FOMO goes.

Maybe the accessories are genuinely nice. I'll wait for an unboxing before I judge the value. But the headline alone is enough to make me roll my eyes. If I'm spending that much, I want the actual game in my hands too.

Not saying I won't be tempted. November 19 is close enough that every new merch drop hits different. But this one feels like a pass unless the contents turn out to be something special.
