Rockstar promises next games won’t take as long as GTA 6 to make

Dexerto has a piece up about Rockstar devs talking about GTA 6's development and how it's supposed to make future games come faster. I'll believe it when I see it but the reasoning is at least interesting.

From what they're saying, the long haul on GTA 6 wasn't wasted. All the groundwork they laid for this game, the tech, the workflows, whatever, should carry over to whatever comes next. So the next project doesn't have to start from zero the way this one did in a lot of areas.

I get the logic. RDR2's engine work probably fed into GTA 6 too, but the scale of Leonida and all the systems they've shown is a different beast. If the tools are finally where they want them, maybe the next game is more like a 4 or 5 year wait instead of a decade plus.

Still, this is Rockstar we're talking about. They've been saying they care about quality over speed forever, and that's not changing. I don't expect them to suddenly pump out a new title every two years like Ubisoft. But if they can avoid another 12 year gap between mainline GTA games, that's a win for everyone.

Also worth remembering we're a month out from GTA 6 actually launching. It's funny to see them already talking about what's after it. I haven't even finished deciding which edition to preorder and they're on about the next game.

Anyway, I'm not holding my breath, but if the next Red Dead or whatever comes out before 2032 I'll be pleasantly surprised.
