rockstar says gta 6 tech means the next game won't take another 8 years
Phil Hooker and Aaron Garburt, two of the dev leads at Rockstar, gave Bloomberg an interview and basically promised the next game after GTA 6 won't have us waiting another eight years. That gap between Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 6 has been rough, so I'll take any reassurance I can get.
The interesting part is why they think that. They said the tech they've been building for GTA 6 is going to carry over and speed up whatever comes next. That makes sense when you think about it. All the systems for Leonida, the NPC behavior, the animation work, whatever else is under the hood, that's not getting thrown out after launch. It becomes the baseline for the next project instead of starting from scratch.
I remember the wait between GTA 5 and RDR2 was five years, and then RDR2 to GTA 6 stretched to eight. If the next one lands in four or five years because of this, that's a huge shift for Rockstar. Though I'm not holding my breath. They always say stuff like this and then scope creeps in.
Do you think we actually see the next Rockstar game by 2030, or is this just the kind of thing devs say when they're a month out from shipping?
