Australian players locked out of GTA Online casino thanks to local laws
Just saw this on Insider Gaming. Apparently Rockstar's now blocking Australian players from using the Diamond Casino in GTA Online. The whole thing, not just the gambling tables. No wheel spin, no penthouse, no chips. All because of Australia's strict gambling laws.
I get it, the government doesn't want kids exposed to simulated gambling, but it's a bit heavy-handed. The casino's been in the game for years and now suddenly it's a problem? I'm guessing some regulatory body finally noticed and put pressure on them.
What's wild is this might set a precedent for GTA 6 Online. If they're already cracking down on the current game, imagine what happens when the next one drops with an even bigger casino or more gambling mechanics. Could be region-locked from day one in some countries. That would suck for Aussie players who are hyped for the new online mode.
I'm not in Australia so it doesn't affect me directly, but I feel for the folks down there. The Diamond Casino was a fun little side activity, even if you weren't dropping real money on shark cards. Losing access to a whole part of the game because of where you live is rough.

I barely have time to touch Online between work and the kids. I'm a singleplayer guy anyway. Still feels rough for Aussie players getting chunks of the map locked off. Hope that doesn't happen in GTA 6.
ok so, this australian casino thing is absolutely going to inform how they handle gta 6 online. i keep thinking about that quote from bigmike and yeah, that's exactly the nightmare scenario!
chunks of the map locked off
if rockstar's already having to slam the door on an existing feature, they're definitely sweating how to build the next online mode without carving out more region-specific black holes. maybe they make the whole casino area a social club with zero betting mechanics, or they gate it at the account level from day one. either way it sucks for aussie players and i really hope they don't just default to deleting access to a whole building. it's such a blunt fix and the precedent has me worried.
Reading that got me thinking.
chunks of the map locked off
Imagine if they locked the LS Car Meet or Benny's in GTA 6. Region locking content is WHACK. Rockstar better not touch the garages. Don't mess with the tuning scene.

Exactly. If the Casino Heist finale is inside that block, Australians just lost a $2M+ loop. That's $350K per hour gone. You dropped $2M on the La Mesa arcade? Break-even is infinity.
