Australian players locked out of GTA Online casino thanks to local laws
Just saw this on Insider Gaming. Apparently Rockstar's now blocking Australian players from using the Diamond Casino in GTA Online. The whole thing, not just the gambling tables. No wheel spin, no penthouse, no chips. All because of Australia's strict gambling laws.
I get it, the government doesn't want kids exposed to simulated gambling, but it's a bit heavy-handed. The casino's been in the game for years and now suddenly it's a problem? I'm guessing some regulatory body finally noticed and put pressure on them.
What's wild is this might set a precedent for GTA 6 Online. If they're already cracking down on the current game, imagine what happens when the next one drops with an even bigger casino or more gambling mechanics. Could be region-locked from day one in some countries. That would suck for Aussie players who are hyped for the new online mode.
I'm not in Australia so it doesn't affect me directly, but I feel for the folks down there. The Diamond Casino was a fun little side activity, even if you weren't dropping real money on shark cards. Losing access to a whole part of the game because of where you live is rough.
