Taking days off for GTA 6 Online — launch week or wait a bit?
I'm trying to figure out the best time to burn a couple vacation days for GTA 6, but I'm only really interested in the online side. Story mode can wait, I want to be there when the new Online world opens up.
Launch day is Thursday Nov 19th, and I'm not touching that with a ten foot pole. We all remember GTA Online's original launch, and even with Rockstar's experience now, I'm expecting server fires, login queues, and probably some weird bugs that'll get hotfixed in the first few days. No way I'm wasting a day off staring at a loading screen.
Right now I'm thinking of taking the following Thursday and Friday, Nov 26th and 27th. That gives them a full week to sort out the worst of it. By then the day one patch should be settled, servers hopefully stable, and the initial rush might have calmed down a bit. Plus it's right before the weekend so I'd get a four day stretch.
But I'm second guessing myself. Is a week enough? GTA Online was a disaster for like two weeks back in 2013. Rockstar's infrastructure is way better now, but the player count on day one is going to be astronomical. Maybe I should push it to early December instead? I don't want to be the guy who books time off and still can't get in.
What's everyone else doing? If you're taking days off specifically for the online mode, when are you pulling the trigger?

server fires, login queues
You're not wrong. A week probably isn't enough buffer. Early December is safer. Rockstar's experience hasn't prevented a launch meltdown yet. I'd just wait until the first major patch drops.
ok so has Rockstar actually confirmed Online goes live on the 19th because V had that weird two week gap before Online switched on and if they're doing the same thing here your Nov 26 plan is just story mode and maybe some freeroam! I'd wait for the newswire to spell out the calendar before you burn any PTO.
No point syncing comms for a launch window we don't have. I'm waiting on Rockstar's calendar before I burn PTO.
I'm at zero percent completion on my PTO plan until Rockstar posts the Online calendar. Story mode won't crash on launch day.
server fires, login queues
rockstar's infra isnt the real worry for rp players. even if online goes live smooth day one, whitelist frameworks and custom assets wont be ready for weeks. youre booking pto to sit in queue for a public lobby full of randos. wait for the newswire, then wait for devs. mid december earliest for actual rp.
