ok so we're all counting down to november 19 and the new gta online but one thing I can't stop thinking about is cross-play. like, it's 2026 and every major multiplayer game has it, fortnite, warzone, apex, even call of duty finally caved, but rockstar has never let ps and xbox players share a lobby. with gta online 2 launching only on ps5 and xbox series x|s (no pc version announced yet, which might actually be a blessing because no modders to worry about), this feels like the moment they could finally do it. the hardware is practically identical now, both amd apus, so no more weird cell processor excuses. and the pre-order bonus is the same vintage vice city pack on both platforms, so they're not doing exclusive content that would fragment things.

but then again, rockstar loves their walled gardens, and maybe they think keeping platforms separate means more people buy two copies to play with friends on both. I'm torn because I want to believe they'll unify the player base, but old habits die hard. do you think rockstar will finally break the cross-play barrier for gta online 2, or are we stuck in platform silos forever?

Rockstar's never been about unity. It's about control, about curating each ecosystem down to the last detail. I don't see them tearing down that wall for the next Online, even with identical hardware under the hood. The matching pre-order bonus is just table stakes, not an olive branch. They'll keep the silos. More money in fragmentation, and they know it.
