ps5 players planning permanent blackout, no gta 6 or wolverine for them

Saw this on Push Square and had to bring it here. There's a protest going around where PS5 owners are unplugging their consoles, and some of them are talking about making it permanent. The whole point is to tank Sony's active user numbers, which is a metric they apparently care about a lot.
The blackout technically starts at 7pm local time wherever you are, but a bunch of people already pulled the plug early. The idea is if enough players go dark, Sony notices. I get the frustration, the PSN price hike and the way they've handled some stuff lately has been rough. But permanent? That means no GTA 6 in November. No Wolverine whenever that finally shows up. You're basically locking yourself out of the two biggest PS5 exclusives on the horizon.
I'm not saying don't protest. If you're mad, you're mad. But there's a difference between a weekend blackout and swearing off the console forever. GTA 6 is the exact kind of game that makes owning a PS5 worth it. Lucia and Jason in Leonida, the whole state to explore, and you're gonna sit that out because Sony raised prices or whatever the specific gripe is this week?
Also worth remembering the active user metric thing cuts both ways. If a ton of people unplug and stay unplugged, Sony's quarterly numbers dip, sure. But then they just point at engagement dropping and maybe double down on the stuff people hate. Or they push more ads and microtransactions to make up the difference. I don't think a permanent blackout gets you the outcome you want.
I'll be keeping my PS5 plugged in. November 19 is too close to start playing martyr. If the protest works and Sony actually changes something, great. But I'm not missing GTA 6 over it.

A permanent blackout means zero percent completion. I abandoned my first GTA IV save during The Snow Storm, and I've regretted it ever since. Missing Lucia and Jason's opening chapter over account fees is worse. I'll keep my PS5 online through November 19 and deal with Sony's rates after I've finished the campaign.
