japan gets a cheaper midnight black ps5 on gta 6 launch day and the rest of us are out of luck

Sony announced a Japan-only Midnight Black PS5 that drops November 19, same day as GTA 6. Of course they did. The one time a black console would actually make sense for the biggest launch of the generation, and it's locked to one region.

I've been holding off on grabbing a second PS5 for the living room, figured I'd wait and see if any GTA 6 bundles or special editions popped up. A cheaper black PS5 would've been perfect. But nope, Japan only. Sony does this every single time with the cool colorways and limited runs.

The timing is obviously deliberate. GTA 6 is the game that's going to move consoles in November, so they're putting a new SKU out there to catch people who haven't upgraded yet. Smart for the Japanese market, but it stings for everyone else who wanted an official black console without paying scalper prices for plates.

I remember when the PS5 first launched and people were buying black plates from third parties because Sony only had white. Now they finally make an official black one and it's region locked. Classic Sony.

If you're in Japan and still need a PS5 before GTA 6, this is probably the one to grab. For the rest of us, guess we'll keep staring at our white consoles and pretending we don't care.
