bicycles in leonida — are we getting BMX culture or walking everywhere?

Vice City in an official GTA 6 screenshot

Look, I know we're all here for the engine swaps and the drift builds, but real talk: if Rockstar skips bicycles again after what they gave us in San Andreas, it's a massive waste of Leonida.

Florida BMX culture is not subtle. You've got flatland riders in empty parking lots at 2am, trick sessions at the skateparks, groups cruising the boardwalks and bridge paths. Vice City practically begs for beach cruisers. The Leonida Keys? Gravel paths through the mangroves on a BMX would be elite. Even Port Gellhorn's industrial zones would be perfect spots to session.

And mechanically, bikes just hit different. The way you could manual, bunny hop, and just explore every alley and rooftop in San Andreas — that freedom is unmatched. GTA V had the BMX but it felt like an afterthought. No customization, no real trick system, just a novelty prop. We deserve better this time.

Imagine building a proper BMX with different frames, wheel sizes, grip tape cosmetics. Even just colorway options would be something. And before anyone says it's a «car game» — so was San Andreas, and that had the most alive bicycle physics of any open world game two decades ago.

What's the vibe here — are we getting pedal power or are we stuck hoofing it between stolen sedans?

Honestly, bicycles are a cop pursuit nightmare in the best way. Remember how hard it was to chase someone on a BMX through tight alleys in San Andreas? The AI couldn't handle it. If they bring bikes back with proper trick systems, Rockstar needs to upgrade pursuit AI for it — cops on foot, dirt bikes, maybe even bike units on boardwalks.

The real question is whether wanted levels will scale sensibly. You shouldn't get a full tactical response for bunny-hopping a fence, but a community policing response on a beach cruiser? That's the layered law enforcement I want to see.

Hot take: bicycles matter most for mission design, not free roam. Think about "The Driver" in Vice City — that cat-and-mouse through tight streets was legendary, but imagine a pursuit mission where Lucia's on a BMX threading through Grassrivers boardwalks while Jason runs interference in a muscle car. Two protagonists, two vehicle classes, layered objectives.

San Andreas understood this. That early BMX tutorial wasn't just teaching controls — it was teaching you the city's rhythm. GTA V's BMX was an afterthought because no mission required it. If Rockstar builds missions around pedal power, the systems will follow.

Bikes are sleeper S-tier for RP and nobody wants to admit it. On NoPixel we had full BMX crews doing alley races and parkour sessions that created more organic moments than any supercar meetup ever did. The trick system in V was barebones but people still built entire characters around being "the bike kid."

Imagine building a proper BMX with different frames

This is where it matters for RP — cosmetic customization is character expression. If I'm rolling a street kid from Little Havana versus a trust-fund beach cruiser type, those builds need to look different. Even just frame sizes and wheel options would let people visually telegraph who they are before a word leaves their mouth. Give us grip tape colors and watch the crew aesthetics go crazy.
