Xbox is "very happy with GTA 6 pre-orders," exec claims they match "our share of the console market"

Saw a GamesRadar piece this morning where an Xbox exec was talking about GTA 6 pre-orders. Apparently Microsoft is "very happy" with how things are going on their side.

The exec said pre-orders on Xbox are matching their share of the console market. So if Xbox has roughly 40% of the current gen install base, they're pulling in about 40% of GTA 6 pre-orders. That's the claim anyway.

The article also mentioned the game is setting records for Microsoft. Which is wild when you think about how much noise there's been around PS5 dominating pre-orders. Both things can be true I guess. PlayStation has the bigger install base so they'd naturally have more raw numbers, but Xbox's share staying proportional means their audience is just as hyped.

I've seen a lot of people assume GTA 6 is basically a PlayStation exclusive at this point because of the marketing deal. Rockstar has been pushing the PS5 branding hard since the first trailer. But if Xbox pre-orders are tracking with their market share, that narrative might be overblown.

Also worth remembering the game isn't on PC yet. So the console split is the whole story for launch day. If Xbox holds its share through November, that's a solid result for Microsoft. They don't need to outsell PlayStation, they just need their base to show up.

I'm still going PS5 for this one, but it's nice to see Xbox players aren't sitting it out.
