gta 5 modder built a dynamic car flip system inspired by gta 6, no two flips look the same
Saw this on the GTA6 subreddit and figured it belonged here too. A modder posted early test footage of a physics mod for GTA 5 that makes car flips way more realistic. They said it's inspired by what they hope GTA 6 will do with vehicle physics, and honestly the description sounds wild.
So the mod takes a bunch of data from the car, mass, weight, velocity, direction, road angle, g-forces, all that. Then it basically hijacks the car's controls and steers it into a flip using invisible forces. It applies a pit maneuver to the rear, hits the brakes, and pushes up on the underside. The force is calculated from all that data at that exact moment, so it tries to tip the car over in a physically correct way. The modder said it's fully modular and works with any vehicle.
What got me is the part about no two flips ever looking the same. Every force and where it's applied depends on what the car was doing right before, the speed, the road angle, everything. So it's not a canned animation, it's actually deterministic based on the situation. That's the kind of thing I'd love to see in GTA 6, where a crash at 80 mph on a downhill curve looks completely different from one at 40 mph on a flat street.
The modder admitted it's very early and unstable, but said this is the worst it will ever be. Which is fair, mods always start janky. Still, the concept is cool. I've been thinking about how Rockstar might handle vehicle deformation and crash physics in GTA 6, and this kind of dynamic system would be a huge step up from GTA 5's somewhat scripted flips.
Do you think Rockstar will actually implement something like this in GTA 6, or is this just wishful thinking from a modder who's tired of the old physics?
