gta 1 and 2 were the only pc-first games, and the pc wait has been brutal since

Was poking around release dates and realized something kind of funny. The first two GTA games actually hit PC before consoles, at least in some regions. GTA 1 came out on PC in Europe in November 1997, then the PS1 version followed a couple weeks later. In North America the PC version dropped in March 1998, with the PS1 port coming a few months after that. GTA 2 was a bit of a mess, simultaneous on PC and PS1 in Europe but in North America the PC version launched first in September 1999, then PS1 a month later.

After that, Rockstar flipped hard. GTA III was PS2 first in October 2001, Xbox a month later, and PC didn't show up until May 2002, about seven months after the console launch. Vice City repeated that, PS2 in October 2002, PC in May 2003, Xbox even later. San Andreas was PS2 in October 2004, then PC and Xbox together in June 2005, eight months later. GTA IV went PS3 and 360 in April 2008, PC in December 2008, seven months. And GTA V was the worst, PS3 and 360 in September 2013, PC not until April 2015, a full 19 months.

Also worth noting the PS4 and Xbox One never got a brand new GTA game, just ports and GTA Online updates. So the pattern is pretty clear, console first, PC later, and the gap keeps stretching. With GTA 6 already confirmed for PS5 and Series X|S in November 2026 and no PC announcement at all, I'm wondering if we're looking at another year plus wait, or if Rockstar finally does a simultaneous launch. They've been better about PC lately with RDR2 and the GTA trilogy, but GTA 6 is a different beast.

So how long do you think we're waiting for the PC version of GTA 6?

I still remember waiting out those seven months for the Vice City PC port back in 03, felt endless then. After V's 19 months though, I'm not holding my breath for simultaneous.

The GTA IV PC port is the one that sticks with me. Seven months late and it still ran like a science experiment on half the rigs at the time. So part of me wonders if the gap is at least partly them not wanting to repeat that, because a busted GTA 6 PC launch would be a PR disaster on a completely different level.

My guess, and I could be way off, is they treat RDR2 as the template, and that was about 13 months. That puts PC somewhere around late 2027, maybe early 2028. Simultaneous would be nice, but they clearly don't need PC day one sales to break records, so there's not much pressure on them.

the pc wait is basically my savings plan

Might be the most fiscally responsible take in the thread.

Silver lining, the wait funds itself. Run the nightclub loop for another 19 months and the $99.99 Ultimate Edition pays for itself with change left over.

ok so the thing everyone forgets about V's 19 months is the PS4/Xbone version sat in the middle, so it was really two waits stacked together! GTA 6 doesn't have that middle step, current gen is done at launch. my gut says they still stagger it, Rockstar loves a second hype wave, but I'd guess closer to a year than 19 months. also every end card so far has only shown PS5 and Series logos, not even a whisper of PC
