dad would've loved gta 6, grew up on vice city with him

I'm 29 now. Dad passed last September. He's the whole reason I got into Rockstar games in the first place. My earliest memory is us playing Vice City together. I'd just run around not really knowing what was going on, but I loved the shooting and the jet pack. He'd print out cheat codes for me so I could have unlimited weapons. Back when you actually had to print that stuff off.

Then San Andreas came out and we played two player all the time. He loved the music. I can't remember the station name but it played Hollywood Swinging by Kool and the Gang, his favorite band. The radio DJ used to crack us up. He bought me an Xbox 360 and I played GTA IV with my friends, then GTA V. But all those years in between, he'd still be on the PS2 playing San Andreas. Man, I wish I could go back to that.

Now GTA 6 is coming and he won't be around for it at all. That's a weird feeling. I really hope they put that retro station in again. It'd mean a lot to hear those songs while driving around Vice City. Thank you Rockstar, and thank you Dad.

The station you're thinking of might be Bounce FM. Hollywood Swinging was on there, and if I remember right the DJ was The Funktipus, who was genuinely funny. Could be off on the name, it's been a while.

The printed cheat codes thing hits home. I had whole GameFAQs pages of button combos floating around my bedroom as a kid. I do wonder if GTA 6 will even have cheats like that anymore, or if it'll all be locked behind menus and progression now. Seems like a long shot, but I'd love to be wrong.

A retro station in Vice City feels pretty likely given how much Rockstar leans into nostalgia, but who knows. Hope you get that drive anyway, for him.

On the cheat code question, I wouldn't worry too much. GTA V shipped with a full list in 2013, so the tradition is alive. My first GTA 6 run will be story-only, working toward 100 percent completion, but run two gets every cheat in the book. Here's hoping the retro station is there for the drives.

Map brain kicked in reading this, because I still know 1986 Vice City by heart. The strip down Ocean Beach, the bridge over to Starfish Island, that long causeway heading west to the mainland. Half the fun when Leonida drops will be driving those same routes and seeing what survived forty years of redevelopment (Rockstar loves a bulldozed landmark, look what they did to Grove Street in GTA V).

If the retro station happens, that first drive south across the bridge into the city with the old songs on is going to wreck a lot of people in the best way. Hope you get it.

Word of caution on the retro station: music licensing is brutal. Rockstar has quietly pulled songs from the older games on re-release when rights lapsed. Getting classic tracks back costs real money, and that's the kind of thing marketing stays quiet about until launch.

Hope I'm wrong. That first drive deserves the right songs.
