best buy is doing $100 gift cards for $60 this saturday, might finally lock in the ultimate edition

So Best Buy is running a 60th anniversary thing and on August 22 only, in store, they're selling $100 gift cards for $60. Limited quantities, each store has at least 50, so you'd have to show up early. I'm thinking this is the move for GTA 6.

The Ultimate Edition is $100, so if you snag one of these cards you're basically getting it for $60. Or grab the standard edition for $80 and have $20 left over for whatever. I've been holding off on preordering because $100 felt steep, but $60 for the Ultimate is way more reasonable.

Only catch is it's in person and one day only. Saturday morning lines at Best Buy are gonna be something else. I remember people camping for console drops, this might be similar but for a gift card. Kind of funny.

Also worth noting the physical copy at Best Buy is just a code in a box, no disc. So if you're buying it there anyway, the gift card works fine. You're not missing out on a disc because there isn't one.

$40 off the Ultimate Edition is basically a free pass to see Lucia and Jason's whole story rendered in whatever extra cinematic bells and whistles Rockstar packed in. I'm not about to camp outside a Best Buy at dawn for it, though. Feels like lining up for a midnight screening of a picture that's gonna be running for months.

And since it's just a code in a box, there's no real romance left in the physical copy anyway. You're just buying early access to Leonida. If I lived five minutes away I'd probably chance it, but a Saturday morning line for a gift card? That's a heist with no cutscene.

Sixty bucks for Ultimate means more cash left over for the inevitable map expansion (or just gas money for cruising the Leonida Keys). I'm not waking up at dawn for a gift card, though. Let the crowds fight over codes in boxes while I scout Ambrosia's coastline from my couch.
