GTA 6 on launch day won't be the best version — and that's a bummer

I saw a post elsewhere that got me thinking about GTA 6. The guy was asking why AAA games never seem to run at their absolute best on the hardware that's current when they launch. You buy a new game for your console or PC, but you can't max it out. You end up waiting half a decade for a remaster or a PC port to finally see it in all its glory.

And honestly, that's probably exactly what's gonna happen with GTA 6. We know it's hitting PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in November 2026. No PC version in sight. Rockstar's done this before. GTA V launched on PS3/360 and it was a technical miracle, but the "definitive" version didn't arrive until the PS4/Xbox One and PC releases years later. RDR2 was the same: console first, PC a year later, and you needed a monster rig to max it out even then.

So here we are, counting down to GTA 6, but the launch version on current consoles will probably be 30fps with some compromises. Maybe a performance mode at 60fps, but with lower resolution or fewer NPCs on screen. The real "max settings" experience? That's likely years away, either on a PS5 Pro patch or a PC port that doesn't even have a release window yet. It's a little deflating knowing we might not see Leonida at its full potential on day one.

I'm still gonna play it at launch, no doubt. But a part of me wonders if I should just wait for the PC version to get the true experience. What about you? Are you okay with a slightly compromised version at launch, or are you holding out for the inevitable PC or next-gen release?
