ff7 revelation preview has me hoping gta 6 doesn't drown us in tutorial pop-ups

If you thought Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was bloated, you're not going to like Revelation - but I'd much rather have too much to do than too little

Caught the Eurogamer preview for FF7 Revelation and the writer was already annoyed by tutorial pop-ups. They said they had to click through a bunch just to start playing, and this was a few hours into the game after the party gets an airship. Square Enix apparently loaded the demo with guide rails to keep it stable, which makes sense for a preview build but still sounds tedious.

The author's overall take was that even though Rebirth felt bloated, they'd rather have too much to do than too little. I get that. I've played games that were so stripped down they felt empty. But there's a difference between having a lot of systems and making me read a manual every five minutes.

For GTA 6, I really hope Rockstar keeps the onboarding light. We've waited years for this. I don't want a pop-up explaining how to sprint or how to open the map. The extended look already hinted at a ton of moving parts, and I'm fine with discovering them on my own. If every new mechanic gets a tutorial box, it's going to feel like a corporate training video instead of a crime spree.

I'm not saying the FF7 preview is bad. It's just a demo slice and they probably had to over-explain because journalists only get a short time with it. But it's a reminder that handholding can kill the vibe fast. Rockstar has been pretty good about letting players figure things out, so I'm not too worried. Still, I'd rather have a few too many systems than a game that treats me like I've never held a controller.
