I've been thinking about this a lot lately. The extended look really sold me on the idea of just driving around Leonida and actually learning the place. In GTA V I spent half my time staring at that little circle in the corner. Never looked at the world. I tried no minimap in RDR2 and lasted maybe an hour before I was completely lost in the swamps, so I know it's not easy. But the indicators they showed in the extended look, those little turn signals on the road, they seem designed exactly for this. Like the game is telling you where to go without a map.

I'm still worried about finding new locations though. You can't just follow a blip if you don't know the area. My plan is to keep the minimap off but maybe use the compass if there is one. Or just pull up the big map when I need to. I think the immersion is worth the frustration. I'll probably cave after a few hours but I'm going to try. The first time through a new GTA is special, I want to actually see it. Not just drive from dot to dot.

I'm keeping the health and ammo HUD on though, I'm not a masochist. But the minimap can go. I'll learn the roads or die trying. And honestly, I'm so ready for this game it's not even funny.
