gunplay improvements in gta 6 got me way more hyped than i expected
I've played GTA 5, RDR1, and RDR2. GTA 5's shooting never felt great to me. It was serviceable but nothing special. RDR2 was better but the screen shake every time you fired got old fast. So when GTA 6 was announced I was genuinely worried the gunplay would be more of the same.
Then the extended look dropped and I read through the gameplay info. My anxiety turned into excitement pretty quick.
First off, no limit on handgun firing speed. I love tapping the trigger as fast as I can with a pistol, and GTA 5 had that weird delay. Removing that alone is huge for me. And the screen shake being gone or at least toned way down? Thank god. RDR2's shake made every shootout feel like a chore no matter how dynamic it looked.
Being able to change the default movement speed from walking to jogging is another welcome change. I know a lot of people like walking as the default for immersion, but I'd rather jog by default and slow down when I want to. Having the option is the right call.
In the extended look I noticed enemies react differently depending on where you shoot them. Leg shots, arm shots, torso shots, they all have distinct reactions. That reminded me of RDR1 and Mafia 3, both of which had fluid and satisfying gunfights. If GTA 6 is pulling from those, I'm all for it.
Environmental destruction also stood out. Broken glass, walls getting chewed up by bullets, stuff like that. I've always thought that kind of reactivity is critical for combat immersion. It makes the world feel less static when you're in a firefight.
These are just the things I could pick out from the video. I know GTA 6 isn't only about combat, but gunplay is the thing I'm most looking forward to. After the disappointment of GTA 5's shooting, I'm hoping Rockstar finally nails it this time.
What gunplay improvement are you most hoping for in GTA 6?

ok so the thing in the extended look I can't stop thinking about is this bit:
enemies react differently depending on where you shoot them
if it goes beyond a flinch animation, like a leg shot actually makes someone limp when they're running from you, then suddenly you're picking your shots mid-fight instead of holding the trigger and waiting for a health bar to drain. RDR1 was doing this in 2010! about time it came back
and yeah the pistol fire rate fix sounds small but GTA 5's delay drove me insane, tapping away while nothing happened. those tiny fixes are the ones you feel in every single encounter
only thing I'm cautious on is the destruction. demos always show walls crumbling on cue, so I want to see how much of it holds up against random cops in some alley with no script running
ngl i only got into gta 5 last year so i thought the shooting was fine lol. now everyone keeps bringing up the pistol delay and i physically cant unfeel it
and the leg shot thing sounds so evil, some npc just limping away from me. im absolutely doing that to the first one i see fr
